The 2016 NUCA North Texas Awards Banquet combined well deserved recognition of our members’ excellence as well as all the race track excitement of Lone Star Park. Many thanks to Patrick Keller (National Trench Safety), Travis Inge (Frost), and Kelli Meyer (Vermeer Texas Louisiana) for lending their time and talents to this event’s success.
2016 Contractor Member of the Year: Dakota Utilities Contractors, Inc. jumped into NUCA in a big way last year serving on the board, co-chairing the Safety committee, helping us improve our service to the trenchless community and always being engaged in attending and sponsoring events.
2016 Associate Member of the Year: Frost is represented on four of our committees, as well as the board, a super sponsor, active promoter, and host for meetings and events. Other company awards included:
Contractor Safety Award: Driver Pipeline
Project Award (Under Five Million): Reyes Group
Project Award (Over Five Million): Driver Pipeline
We recognized individual achievement: 2016 Superintendent of the Year Bob Becky (Kiewit – Southgate) and 2016 Safety Professional of the Year Tom Thompson (John Burns Construction Company of Texas, Inc.).
Our chapter has outstanding member participation. Our association’s success is due to the broad base of support we get from dozens of members. Out of that group of supporter we recognized a few dedicated members for their ongoing dedicated support for our chapter in two categories; Extraordinary Member Participation:
Chad Pendley (U.S. Shoring)
Marie Rhom (Buyers Barricades)
Chris Dunn (Underground Products of Texas
and Extraordinary Leadership:
Kelli Meyer (Vermeer) Events Committee Chair
Ed ‘Whiz’ Whisenant (Driver Pipeline) Board Member

This year’s Awards Banquet featured our first ‘Ditch Digger’ award, carrying NUCA National’s tradition down to our regional chapter. Congratulations to Zach Fusilier (North Texas Contracting) for years of exemplary service to our chapter and our industry.
Another first was introduced at the banquet, the NUCA North Texas Scholarship Fund; thanks to all the donations we raised nearly $1400.
